Dr. Michael McCartney, Jr., DMD, FAGD

 

Graduated from UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School in 1992.

He won the prestigious Excellence in Periodontics Award given by the Faculty of the Periodontics Dept.

He was accepted into and experienced the US Air Force Advanced Education In General Dentistry(AEGD)/General Practice Residency(GPR)in Washington, DC at Bolling AFB and Andrews AFB during 1992-93.

From 1993-95 he served as a staff dentist and Chief of Preventive Dentistry at Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA. He met his wife, Lori, in Valdosta, and they married in October of 1994.  They have 2 daughters, Ivey (9), and Anna-Leigh (5).

In May of 1995 he began working part-time at Adel Dental Associates, and after separating from the Air Force in August of 1995, assumed the position as a full time associate for the owner, Dr. Randy Benner, DDS, of Moultrie.  Dr. McCartney purchased the practice in January of 1998 and the rest, as they say, is history.  Adel Dental Associates celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2005 and we look forward to many more with wonderful folks like yourself.

Dr. McCartney is a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Southwestern District Dental Association (which he will be the president in 2006-7).  He attained Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry by taking over 500 hours of continuing education and passing a difficulty written exam.  In 2005, Dr. McCartney was awarded Fellowship in the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Academy, a dental honor society that recognizes its members for service to the public and to organized dentistry.

He is active in the community, especially the Chamber of Commerce, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors, and was Chairman in 2004.  He won the Chamber Volunteer of the Year for 2003 and Chamber Man of the Year for 2004.  He is the color commentator for the Cook High Hornet Football team on Friday night on 92.1FM. and is an avid sports enthusiast.

 

My Team:

Martha Tucker, Dental Assistant, has been involved in dentistry for over 25 years and has a wealth of experience and a great chairside manner.  She is involved with the Red Hatters Organization.

 

Monica Bennefield, Dental Assistant, has been in dentistry for 6 years, having been trained in the Valdosta Technical College Dental Assisting Program.

She is our technology expert and her passion is educating our patients on what dentistry has to offer and how we can help our patients get healthy.  She has a husband, Michael, and a 1 year old son, Chase.

 

Penny Rutland, RDH, Dental Hygienist, has been in dentistry for 15 years.  She was trained at Darton College and is a Cook Countian.  She is dedicated to educating our patients on the benefits of oral health and manages to get even the most infected mouths clean painlessly.  She is married to her husband, Marty, and has 2 daughters, Alana & Haley.  They are big Cook County and Georgia Bulldog fans.

 

Shanya Register, RDH, Dental Hygienist, has been in dentistry for 6 years, first as an assistant, then she went back to school, at Darton College, to get her hygiene degree.  She also has a very gentle touch and a real concern to help her patients get healthy.  She is married to her husband, Jon, and they are expecting their first child in April.  They are big Florida State Seminole Fans.

 

Susan Harris, Practice Administrator, joins us from a big cosmetic dentistry practice in Louisville, KY.

She handles scheduling appointments, treatment plans, and financial issues.  She is always willing to help our patients find the most affordable ways to obtain the best dentistry possible.  She is married to Winslow, and has 2 sons, Jeffrey and Tommy.  She and Winslow are big University of Kentucky Basketball fans.

 

Melissa Jefferson, Administrative Assistant, rejoins our practice after her college schedule pulled her away.  She helps with the scheduling, billing, and insurance issues.  She is cousins with the famous baseball Drew brothers, J.D., Tim, and Stephen, all with major league teams now.
